The
current Government environment physically separates information of differing
security levels. An individual having access to multiple levels of security
must have credentials for each of the physically separate security domains.
When information is required, the individual must know the physical network on
which the data resides and log on to the network with credentials specific to
that network. If information is also required from a different security level,
the individual must terminate access to the existing network, go to a location
that can access the new network, and log on to the new network with credentials
specific to that network. The problem is twofold. An individual must have
knowledge on which network data resides and the individual must have access to
multiple physical networks representing differing security levels.

While Network Centric
Solutions may be a new paradigm for the Federal Government, VDTG personnel
have been instrumental in implementing similar solutions.
-
VDTG personnel are
currently supporting a data labeling solution that will provide us with the
lessons learned and interoperability issues needed as other environments
migrate to Network Centric Solutions.
-
VDTG personnel are
assisting in defining the Information Assurance architecture to support the
network centric information environment.
-
VDTG personnel have
implemented numerous secure web portals and single-sign-on authorization
server implementations.

VDTG personnel are
leading critical aspects of the IA GIG and CBIS programs.
